LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky police are calling for a ban on “Glock switches,” devices that can turn standard handguns into fully automatic weapons, as seizures of the attachments spike.
The move comes with the introduction of House Bill 299, sponsored by Rep. Jason Nemes, R-Louisville, which would make possession of a machine gun conversion device a felony under state law.
A Glock switch is a small, often 3D-printed attachment capable of firing up to 1,200 rounds per minute. In Louisville, seizures jumped from 31 in 2023 to 80 in 2024.
While federal law already bans the devices, local authorities have limited power to prosecute, forcing reliance on federal intervention.
“These devices lead to guns being used in ways they were never designed — posing a deadly threat to both law enforcement and bystanders,” said Nemes. “We can address this problem while safeguarding Second Amendment rights, and that’s exactly what this bill does.”
