LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB/WKYT) — Kentucky ranked among the top-performing states in reading and math improvement between 2022 and 2025, according to the Kentucky School Report Card released Wednesday.
The state placed fifth out of 35 states in reading improvement and eighth out of 38 states in math improvement, according to the Kentucky Department of Education.
The report also showed Kentucky's four-year graduation rate increased to 93.5%, up from 92.3% last year. College and career readiness also improved, with 83% of seniors meeting academic or career benchmarks, up from 81%.
While eighth-grade reading and math scores improved, fourth-grade scores remained unchanged at 47% in both subjects. Kindergarten readiness also declined from 48% to 46%.
Education leaders said investments in literacy coaches and phonics-based reading programs contributed to the improvements.
