LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- At least four Kentuckians have died this week because of the winter weather.
Gov. Andy Beshear announced the deaths in a statement Friday afternoon. A fifth person was a 78-year-old man from Oldham County, but the county coroner said they cannot definitively confirm the death was a result of the weather.
The other deaths happened in Daviess, Fayette, Floyd and Woodford counties.Ā
"Britainy and I are praying for our Kentucky families who have lost their loved ones," Beshear said in a statement.Ā
Beshear asked Kentuckians to check on family and neighbors during the extreme cold weather.
"Please take time today to check on your family, friends and co-workers and make sure they have what they need to stay safe and warm," he said.
The governor also encouraged people to stay off the roads, if possible, as temperatures dip this weekend.Ā
Louisville's airport measured 2.7-inches of snow on Friday, the most snow the city has seen since December 2022. Campbellsburg, Kentucky, and Madison, Indiana, each saw around 3 inches of snow or more.Ā
