LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Snow in parts of Kentucky and southern Indiana caused hazardous driving Friday morning and forced many schools to close.

Snow totals varied from about 2 inches in Louisville to 3 1/2 inches in Campbellsburg, Kentucky. In southern Indiana, Madison had 3 inches, and Corydon woke up to more than 2 1/2 inches of snow, according to WDRB meteorologist Jude Redfield.

Louisville Metro Public Works started treating roadways by 5 p.m. Thursday, so as the snow fell overnight with temperatures in the upper 20s, the salt and brine kept many major thoroughfares in good shape.

City crews treated all 111 snow routes, or about 2,700 miles of roadway overnight, according to Public Works spokesman Sal Melendez. Most roads are in fair condition, but neighborhood and secondary roads in Louisville are snow covered and slippery. A second round of treatment applied Friday may not be as effective because temperatures are expected to drop into single digits.

To the north, Indiana State Police said it has had calls for slide-offs on state Road 160 between Salem and Henryville, but there have not been major issues on interstates or other state highways.
