LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Time to pay the piper — another bridge closure means snarled traffic and RiverLink issues, but drivers said they are willing to pay for the tolls, praying RiverLink works properly.

On Wednesday outside of both Riverlink offices in downtown Louisville and Jeffersonville, drivers told their stories dealing with RiverLink, and with work occurring on the two bridges without tolls, drivers have no choice but to sign up.

Carol Strum could have ordered her RiverLink sticker online, but chose the old fashion way of doing business — face to face. As her and her partner Dennis Grzanka were trying to attach the new plastic RiverLink pass on the windshield of their car, Strum said they use the Second Street Bridge to get to a gym in Jeffersonville.

“The Second Street Bridge is going to a be closed for a month, and there is construction on the Sherman Minton bridge periodically for who knows how long," said Strum.

The pair tried getting to the gym using the Sherman Minton Bridge to avoid the tolls, but the 10-minute trip turned into a 45-minute trek, so they got the RiverLink pass.

”This is the easiest thing,” said Strum.

WDRB gets emails from viewers every day complaining about the billing problems with RiverLink.

"At this point it is a disaster, and they are essentially ripping people off, or at least it feels that way," Joe Clemons said.

"Ever since they changed services last summer, the entire service has become even worse," said Michael Tomes.

"I am at a loss for who I should call for help," Jennifer Henry said. "In the meantime, they continue to charge me hundreds of dollars I cannot afford."

These are complaints Strum has heard before and hopes to avoid.

“I do not know I have a real mean tongue when I get mad so I am not expecting too much trouble,” said Strum.

The Second Street Bridge is open to southbound traffic only for about a month. Northbound drivers are forced to use the Sherman Minton Bridge or a toll bridge.
