LANESVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) — Devastation hit Lanesville last week when flash flooding covered the downtown area.
The community is now recovering from the day that rocked the small town.
More than eight inches of rain fell over the course of about three hours in Lanesville, turning streets into rivers, trapping neighbors in their homes and businesses and causing some to take shelter on rooftops.
Water has gone down and some businesses are back to normal, but for others, the cleanup process is nowhere near being done.
"I looked out my bathroom window and saw water everywhere," Lanesville resident Devin Davis said.
The flash flooding came in an instant.

"It was a little bit scary for a minute there," Davis said.
It was a phenomenon Devin Davis had never experienced before. Davis pointed out numerous places the water reached, including her stairs.
Her basement was the only thing that flooded, but she had to go without power for a few days.
"The water was over my circuit breaker, so they had to turn the power off and I think they're going to take all of that out and redo it," Davis said.
Sherry Brooks had a similar experience during the flood.
"I walked out on the porch and my neighbors’ cars were underwater, there's a dumpster back there that had floated down, two propane tanks had floated down against their cars," Brooks said.
"It's just devastating to the people who were affected by this," Brooks said.
More than 400 people showed up Saturday to Heritage Park and the Lanesville High School baseball field to help clean up.
"It's truly awesome to have a community that comes together like this and I'm extremely proud of our community," Brooks said.
While the cleanup comes and goes, it's a day those who were impacted will never forget.
"I'm just really, really grateful that we didn't have a lot of problems or a lot of damage and everybody is safe," Brooks said.
Harrison County Emergency Management said it has done several damage assessments. Officials are now asking for federal and state help.
"Keep us in your prayers and Eagle strong," Brooks said.
