LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An apartment building in Fern Creek suffered heavy damage when a fire broke out early Saturday morning.
The Fern Creek Fire Department said about 30 firefighters responded around 4:40 a.m. to a three-story apartment building on Hames Trace, not far from Bardstown Road and Hurstbourne Parkway.
Firefighters found the building with heavy fire coming from the top floor patio and attic area. A few residents were treated for smoke inhalation, Assistant chief Dewayne Hutchens said, but there were no serious injuries to civilians or firefighters.
Two units "suffered heavy fire damage," Hutchens said, in addition to the attic. Ten other units had damage from water or smoke.
Hutchens said the Red Cross will assist families displaced from their home. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
