LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Gas & Electric (LG&E) said customers should see cheaper gas bills these next few months.
Thursday, the utility company said wholesale natural gas prices have dropped.
Wholesale natural gas is what LG&E buys to serve homes and businesses. Lower prices up front mean LG&E customers should see lower gas bills on their end.
“Lower natural gas prices go a long way in helping us provide energy at the lowest reasonable costs,” said LG&E’s Eileen Saunders, vice president of Customer Services, in a news release. “This is especially important now because cold temperatures result in increased energy use, which, unfortunately, often gets reflected in higher bills for many of our customers.”
"Based on current prices, LG&E says a natural gas customer, using about 60 ccf (or 6,000 cubic feet) per month will see a bill savings of around 26.54% compared to the same time last year," the company said in a news release Thursday, adding that that puts the typical natural gas portion of a customer's bill at about $68.70.
LG&E said it has assistance programs and payment plans available for those who may still have trouble paying.
