LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Community members gathered Monday evening at the base of the Big Four Bridge for a remembrance walk honoring victims of crime and supporting survivors and families impacted by violence.
"This is not an event. This is not a program. We’re here because of people. People we love, people that mattered," Deputy Chief Emily McKinley said.
The event, hosted by the Louisville Metro Police Department’s Victim Services Unit, is part of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.
A brief ceremony was held during the event, followed by a flower release in memory of loved ones lost to crime. Participants also took part in a walk along the waterfront as part of the observance.
"Look around and know that you’re not alone. You are surrounded by support," LMPD communications director Jen Keeney said.

Louisville Metro Police Department said the gathering offers an opportunity to remember victims, support survivors and bring the community together around shared healing.
"Behind every number is a person, a name, a story, a family and that matters," McKinley said.
