LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Every year, St. Bernard Parish in Louisville turns St. Patrick's Day into St. Baldrick's Day.
The Catholic school and church hosted the fourth annual event Friday morning, its largest charity fundraiser that goes toward childhood cancer research grants.
And this year, St. Bernard raised more than $31,000 for the St. Baldrick's Foundation.
Each of the 40 participants Friday have a different reason on why they decided to buzz or cut their hair.
"Everyone, at some point in their lives, is affected by someone who experiences the trauma of cancer," said Julie Purdue, principal at St. Bernard.
Macie McKune was one of five female students at St. Bernard who had their heads shaved.
"My dad's mom had cancer and she died before I was born and I never got to meet her," Macie said Friday. "I was named after her."
St. Baldrick's said it's raised $342 million in research grant funding since 2005.
