LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville college student was the closest to winning the $1 million hole-in-one Kentucky Derby Festival contest at Seneca Golf Course.
Sean McFarland took home the $5,000 prize for being closest to the pin in the contest. His shot came to rest 11 feet from the hole on the par-3 eighth hole.
After more than 30 years of the annual competition, no one has ever won the $1 million hole-in-one prize.
Fifty-five players from high-handicap golfers to aspiring professionals took a swing at the grand prize after qualifying for the final round on the Seneca driving range.
McFarland said he plans to put his winnings toward a golf membership.
