LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- As temperatures climb, Louisville doctors are sharing tips to stay safe in the extreme heat.

They're common tips, but it's particularly important to remember when temperatures climb as high as they have been this week. Doctors encourage people to wear loose-fitting clothing, spend time in the shade if they need to be outside and drink plenty of fluids.

"Generally, with this, it's always about being hydrated, being on top of that, because the way that you cool down is by sweating, and if you're not drinking fluids, you're not sweating. You can't cool off," said Dr. Joshua Brandon with Norton Primary Care.

You're also encouraged to watch out for symptoms like dizziness, nausea and weakness. They could indicate a more serious issue like heat exhaustion or heat stroke, which requires medical care.
