LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A local civil rights leader commemorated a dark day in history by hosting a “Day of Non-Violence.”
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated 56 years ago, on April 4 in Memphis, Tennessee.
Louisville leaders called for an end to violence in Louisville to honor his legacy.
Reverend Charles Elliott Jr., pastor of King Solomon Baptist Church, walked and worked with King and was with him in the days before he was killed.
"He often would inform us that you cannot win the battle with violence," Elliott said. "Love will win the battle. He said if you love, it does the same thing to hate that light does to darkness."
The church also hosted a dinner on Thursday evening to mark the anniversary.
