LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say a Louisville man broke into his ex-girlfriend's home in the middle of the night and shot her three times.
The incident took place on Dec, 23, just days before Christmas.
According to an arrest report, the victim had broken up with 41-year-old Delrico Neal days earlier, when Neal approached the victim and her sister at a club and asked, "Are you ready to die tonight?"
The encounter spooked the woman, according to police, and they left the club.
Police say Neal's ex-girlfriend went home, where her niece was also staying, along with three children. Before going to bed, she checked her doors and windows to make sure that they were locked.
A short time later, the woman saw a shadow move in her hallway. Police say Neal had broken into the home, and when the woman got out of bed, he shot her three times and ran away.
According to court documents, the woman was shot in her chest, her abdomen and her side.
The woman's niece called 911, and she was taken to University Hospital where she underwent immediate surgery.
A warrant was issued for Neal's arrest and he was taken into custody on Jan. 5. He's charged with attempted murder, first-degree burglary, being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun and third-degree terroristic threatening.
He's currently being held in Louisville Metro Corrections.
