LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Council is encouraging people to donate food this holiday season.
The council is partnering with the Association of Community Ministries to address food insecurity. The donation drive started Monday and goes through Dec. 5. Donations will be distributed to the Association of Community Ministries and shared equally among 13 community ministries, according to a news release.
The food drive is asking for canned proteins like beef stew, canned chicken or tuna and hearty soup, tomato sauce, canned fruit, jelly and cereal. Household items like shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toilet paper and menstruation products is also accepted.Â
"This marks the second year that the Metro Council has organized a city-wide food donation drive to support those in need during the holiday season," Metro Council President Markus Winkler, D-17, said in a news release. "I encourage residents to keep this effort in mind while shopping for food this season. By adding an extra can of soup, a packet of tuna, or a household item to your shopping basket, we can collectively ensure that families are well-stocked this winter."
