LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Louisville Metro Housing Authority already owns Liberty Green Apartments but it has been managed by a third party for some time, and now LMHA management is stepping in to run it their way.
“I mean, I don’t know how I feel about it,” said Lawrence McQuarter, a long time Liberty Green resident. “Hopefully it could be like some change for the better and hopefully get back to how it used to be.”
Two weeks ago, WDRB showed you the mountains of trash left to rot in the parking lot trash bins. The trash became a refuge for rodents and maggots and a harbinger that something had to change.
“Two people in my building that I’m in currently have mold in them so a lot of people just moved – one woman is leaving now she said it was due to mold.” said Bre Shrivers.
She lives in the Liberty Green complex with her two children.
Shrivers said she alerted the current management company Ludwig and Company of peculiar odors in her apartment she suspects are mold related.
“Yes my son he has horrible breathing problems, so I'm just trying to make the most of it,” Shrivers said.
WDRB found holes in the drywall, a charred ceiling from a recent fire along with a general lack of maintenance around the property.
These are some of the same issues WDRB has reported on extensively at Dosker Manor another LMHA property.
Jailen Leavell, the Public Information Officer for Louisville Metro Housing Authority, wrote in a press release:

“In response to previous management challenges, LMHA has increased its oversight of Liberty Green to enhance services and communication for residents.”
Shrivers also told WDRB her lease expired months ago and no one from the leasing office has responded to her calls.
“They told me my lease was going to be renewed in March and now it is September going into October and I still haven’t gotten it renewed” said Shrivers.
But not everyone is having problems.
“It has been great I like it. That is why I’m still here, I’m not going to lie” Liberty Green resident Sara Cowan said.
Cowan said she'll reserve judgement on the change of management
LMHA assumes management of Liberty Green on Nov. 1, 2024, and a meeting with residents is planned for the following week.
