LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --Â A local nonprofit with over 15 years of empowering women for clean water in their communities is now has a new name to sum up its mission: Water By Women.
Formally Water With Blessings, Water By Women now emphasizes a solution for a thirsty world by bringing safe drinking water to everyone.
About 1 million people are estimated to die each year from diarrhea as a result of unsafe drinking-water, sanitation and hand hygiene. That's according to the World Health Organization in 2023.
The Louisville-based nonprofit organization, co-founded by three Kentuckians, is headquartered in Jeffersontown.
Volunteers work to provide safe water for families and communities abroad.
Water By Women has enrolled over 175,000 Water Women in 48 countries since its founding in 2008. Every Water Woman is equipped with an advanced water filter system, guaranteed for a lifetime if properly maintained and attends a three hour training session.
Each woman is also registered via a Geographic Information Systems program, which allows for mapped verification and data collection.
Water By Women also continues its special projects on the Navajo reservation and in eastern Kentucky.
The nonprofit is located at 1902 Campus Place, Suite 11, Louisville, KY 40299. For more information, click here.
