LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A historic Louisville farm showcased a lesser known page of American history on Sunday.

Oxmoor Farm and the American Friends of Lafayette hosted "Getting to Know James Armistead Lafayette." It tells the story about a Black slave who became a Revolutionary War patriot and critical spy for Marquis de Lafayette and George Washington.

Stephen Seals, a re-enactor and storyteller from Colonial Williamsburg, was featured at the event.

"It is very important for people to realize that it wasn't just white people fighting in the war," Mike King with American Friends of Lafayette said. "It was also the Black people, both the free man and the slaves that contributed to our nation and our freedom that we have today."

The Louisville-based Sons of the American Revolution also participated in the event.
