LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Blessings in a Backpack is running a campaign to help a lot of students in the Louisville area.
The program feeds kids on the weekend who qualify for the free and reduced lunch program.
Businessman and philanthropist Dr. Mark Lynn said Monday on WDRB Mornings that a lot of kids weren't going to get food because of a lack of money in the program. So he and his wife, Cindy, are pledging a $25,000 donation to the program.
The Lynns will match up to $25,000 to donations made to Blessings in a Backpack's Louisville Chapter.
Lynn said, in addition to the donation, for every pair of glasses sold at Lynn Family Vision, he will donate $10 to the program. His office is located at 6031 Timber Ridge Drive in Prospect.
"No gift is too small in this regard," he said Monday. "I mean, it's amazing what you can feed and how long you can feed a child for 10, 15, 20 bucks."
Lynn said the donation will allow more than 300 children to be able to be fed for an entire school year in our community.
"We challenge all Louisvillians to step up and join us to give back to the kids in our own backyards," he said.
The Blessings in a Backpack – Louisville Chapter provides weekend food for school-aged kids who might otherwise go hungry. The Louisville chapter feeds more than 5,400 children in 41 local schools in our area. Without the food the students receive from Blessings, these kids could go 65 hours or more with little or nothing to eat.
The online donations campaign runs through March 12. Visit Louisville.BlessingsinaBackpack.org or donate to @LynnBlessings on Venmo.
