LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two local nonprofits partnered to make a young girl's wish come true.

Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana and the Kentucky Humane Society granted a wish for a 4-year-old girl named Ellie. She is currently in treatment for leukemia.

Ellie has a stuffed animal collection of cats and dogs. She'll pretend to be a "pet doctor" and take care of them, according to a news release Tuesday. When she got to pick her wish, she wanted to have her own vet clinic.

Volunteers built a play vet clinic in Ellie's basement and then surprised her with a personalized veterinarian coat and stuffed animals Jan. 29.

"We're so grateful to KHS for partnering with us to make Ellie's wish unforgettable," Juli Miller, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana, said in a news release. "We can't grant life-changing wishes for kids like Ellie without the support of generous community partners like them."

Kentucky Humane Society drove their mobile veterinary clinic to Ellie's home with Veterinary Assistant Dakota Arnold, who showed her the ropes of what it's like to be a veterinarian. Two 4-week-old puppies also visited Ellie. The girl named the puppies Rubble and Chase after two of her favorite Paw Patrol characters.

"It was incredibly special to be a part of Ellie's wish day," Alisa Gray, president and CEO of KHS, said in a news release. "Ellie's passion for animals is inspiring, and we were honored to bring her dream of being a 'pet doctor' to life. The Kentucky Humane Society is committed to not only helping animals in need but also enriching the lives of children like Ellie, who find comfort and joy in caring for animals. Seeing her smile while learning more about veterinary care is a moment we will always cherish."

Make-A-Wish has granted more than 520,000 wishes worldwide, according to a news release. And Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana has granted more than 21,000 wishes since it was founded in 1983.
