LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man is in critical condition after being hit by a car in downtown Louisville Friday night.

Louisville Metro Police responded about 10:30 p.m. to a report of a car collision involving a pedestrian at 1st Street and Broadway, according to LMPD spokesperson Aaron Ellis.

Ellis said the pedestrian, an adult man, who was wearing dark clothing, was in the roadway and not yielding to traffic or utilizing the crosswalk. The man was struck by a car traveling west on Broadway. 

The driver of the car remained on scene and called 911 for help. Ellis said the man who was struck was transported by EMS to UofL Hospital with "critical and life-threatening" injuries. 

Ellis said the driver of the car is cooperating with police, and LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating.
