LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A resident in Lebanon, Kentucky, is $50,000 richer after he bought one of the Kentucky Lottery's $50 Millionaire Club scratch-off tickets at a convenience store.

Thomas Peavy bought the scratch-off ticket at Country Convenient on East Main Street in Lebanon on May 22 but he didn't scratch off the numbers right away. Instead, he scanned the barcode on the ticket and found out he won the 2nd Prize of $50,000 (the Grand Prize is $1 million).

"I scanned it and there it was!" Peavy was quoted as saying in a news release from the Kentucky Lottery.

After the screen displayed $50,000, Peavy then scratched the ticket off to see how he won.

"I'm always messing around with the store owner and said, 'I won $50,000!'" Peavy said. "He about broke his neck to get around to see it.

"I called for my son to come in from the car and showed him. I scanned it and he told me, 'We need to call mom!'"

Peavy told lottery officials his wife didn't believe him at first when he told her the news.

"She thought I was joking," he said. "I had to go back to the store with her and scan the ticket to show her."

Peavy drove to lottery headquarters the next day and received a check for $36,000 after taxes. He said he plans to buy a truck with his winnings.

Country Convenient will receive $500 for selling the winning ticket.
