LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Big changes could soon be coming to Kentucky’s roads and bridges.

Gov. Andy Beshear and state transportation leaders released the 2026 Recommended Highway Plan, a six-year roadmap featuring more than 1,350 projects aimed at making safer roads, traffic smoother and connections stronger across the state.

The nearly $9.5 billion proposal blends federal, state and local funding to repair aging infrastructure, expand key highways, and support major bi-state projects that could create jobs and spur economic growth.

Lawmakers will decide funding for the first phase during the 2026 legislative session.

High-profile projects include the long-awaited Interstate 69 Ohio River Crossing in Henderson, widening of Interstate 71 in Oldham County, and replacement of Frankfort’s iconic “Singing Bridge.”

Hundreds of millions more are set aside annually for routine bridge and pavement repairs to keep Kentucky’s massive transportation system in good shape.

If approved, the highway plan will guide Kentucky’s infrastructure projects for years, impacting daily commutes, commercial travel, and regional development across the commonwealth.
