LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) – More than 100,000 people are spending their Labor Day weekend in downtown Louisville for the 16th annual WorldFest.

The four-day event features music, dancing and crafts from around the world.

WorldFest is one of the largest international festivals in the region with more than 100 nationalities represented.

“We’re from India and we’re Hindus. We’re just exploring Louisville and we thought that World Fest would be a good idea to come to,” said Krish Patel, who has been to the festival before. “We’ve tried tried out the Italian Food and Mexican food. (My family) loves it.”

From Puerto Rican, Vietnamese and Burma, countries each have their own booths and with it come lines for some of the most popular ones.

Saturday’s temperatures were close to 90 degrees which was a lot to handle for Bruce Gernstein and his Apex Catering and Concessions company. Gernstein has been working fairs and festivals for 30 years and is used to the heat.

“Machines that I used to have just can’t keep up with large crowds so we’re making it up ahead of time and putting it in coolers,” Gernstein said.

Mayor Greg Fischer says WorldFest is a great way to meet other cultures in Louisville and expand it’s diversity.

“People come out for the food, the music and of course the culture on display. The people watching is incredible," Fischer said. “You see people from all corners of the world here walking around and say ‘wow, these are our fellow citizens.”

WorldFest continues from Sunday from 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. and Monday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The event is free to the public.
