LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Firearms being confiscated at Kentucky airports are on the rise.
According to Transportation Security Administration officials, 62 guns were found in travelers' carry-on luggage in the first half of this year. That's up from 51 found this time last year.
At Louisville's Muhammad Ali International Airport, 27 firearms have been found so far this year, while Lexington's airport had nine. The airport in Cincinnati had 25.
TSA said in a news release that nearly 4.27 million people have been screened at Kentucky airports so far this year, from Jan. 1 to June 30. This is a 10.8% increase from the same time last year.
If a firearm is located in a traveler's luggage, they face criminal citations or arrest, and can be fined up to $15,000 per violation.
