LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Metropolitan Sewer District and the Louisville Water Company honored veterans Friday by holding a recognition breakfast, feeding 99 of their employees who served or are still serving in the military.

Speakers at the event included Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg and Louisville Metro Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel.

"We know that everyone looks for America to support, America to defend and America to be that beacon of light for the world," said Tony Parrott, executive director of MSD. "And it's because of the veterans that we can say that America is still the beacon of light, that city on a hill that provides the guidance and the safety of our entire continent."

The Louisville MSD Color Guard presented the flag at the ceremony as Toni Glover sang the Star Spangled Banner.
