LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — City leaders in New Albany are moving to take a closer look at the future of data centers in the community as concerns grow over their potential impact on infrastructure and utility costs.

Mayor Jeff Gahan is asking the city council to approve a one-year moratorium on new data center development. If approved, the pause would temporarily halt new projects while officials study how large-scale facilities could affect the city.

During that time, leaders say they will review potential impacts on local infrastructure, the environment, and utility costs tied to increased energy demand.

The proposed pause is expected to be considered at the council's next public meeting, where members will weigh whether a temporary halt is necessary before any further expansion moves forward.
