LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Governor Andy Beshear is weighing on a bill that could create more school districts across Kentucky.
House Bill 162 would allow incorporated cities to create their own school districts like St. Matthews or Jeffersontown. It was filed by Rep. James Tipton (R).
Qualifying cities would be able to petition to create a new school district on their city's ballot. Beshear sees it as an attempt to split up Jefferson County Public Schools.
"And for a bunch of legislators that aren't from Louisville to try to determine how this system of public education works, is wrong," Beshear said.
The bill has been assigned to committee but not yet been heard.
