LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Eight years after Louisville Metro Police Officer Nick Rodman was killed in the line of duty while chasing a suspect in his patrol car, the Metro Council is expected to vote to name a new park in southwest Louisville in his honor.Ā
Officer Rodman was chasing a Wathanial Woods on March 29, 2017, in Louisville's Portland neighborhood when Woods crashed into Rodman's police cruiser. Rodman died the next day.Ā Woods is now in prison after pleading guilty to murder and other charges.
Rodman was 30 years old, and left behind a wife and two children.Ā
LMPD officers will attend Thursday night's Metro Council meeting, where members are expected to present the Nick Rodman Legacy Foundation with the South End Resident Valued for Excellence Award, and discuss designating Louisville's newest park as the Nick Rodman Legacy Park.
That park is in southwest Jefferson County, and has been under construction for more than a year.
