LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A nearly $1 million sidewalk project was completed to connect people to the Parklands of Floyds Fork.

On Tuesday, a ribbon cutting was held for a project that connected the Hills of Beckley Station subdivision to the Parklands of Floyds Fork. It's the latest expansion of the Parklands of Floyds Fork in east Jefferson County. The path is designed to give pedestrians and cyclists safer and more accessible options to get to the park.

Crews had to excavate rock and move a nearby neighborhood's irrigation system to complete the project.

"The idea, the concept of connecting parks so closely to people's homes just points to all kinds of positive health benefits," said Louisville Metro Councilor Kevin Kramer, R-11.

The $940,000 project progressed through multiple phases.

City leaders said the goal is to eventually connect the Louisville Loop to the area.
