JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- Norton Healthcare ceremonially cut the ribbon Thursday on its new health care facility in Jeffersonville.

The new $17 million Norton Medical Center, located off 10th Street in the Jeffersonville Commons shopping center, has an emergency department and a diagnostic center.

It will also house a primary care office and offer outpatient imaging services, including X-rays, CT scans MRIs, mammograms and ultrasounds.

Norton leaders said this provides better care, closer to home, for local families.

"Closer to home really matters when you talk about emergency care," said Russell Cox, president and CEO of Norton Healthcare. "We all agree on that, but closer to home is also important when it comes to you needing a physical. It's easier. It's a better use of your time to have it convenient."

The facility will start accepting patients March 4.
