LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Chili was the most popular taste in NuLu on Sunday.
Louisville Great Chili Cook-Off was held at NuLu Marketplace parking lot due to renovations on Market Street. More than 40 participants served up some of their best chili recipe, some with a twist on the traditional taste.
The annual event started 35 years ago at the Phoenix Hill Tavern and has grown ever since.
"They cook the chili, I don't cook chili so without these guys it doesn't go on and other other competitors that put it on," said Brad Curry, an event organizer. "They put a of time, effort and their own money into it. It is just a great turnout, everyone appreciates it."
A $2,500 cash prize goes to the restaurant and home chef who had the best chili. It cost $100 to enter.
All proceeds for the event go to Norton Children's Hospital.
