UNDERWOOD, Ind. (WDRB) -- EF-1 tornadoes passed through southern Indiana and northern Kentucky following overnight storms in the area, according to a preliminary report by the National Weather Service.

NWS confirmed a tornado near Underwood, Indiana, in northern Clark County, and another one near Port Royal, Kentucky which is in Henry County.

Tom Hall was woken up by the sound of trees falling outside his home in Underwood.

"It sounded like a train coming through," he recalled. "Then it got really calm all of the sudden."

The Underwood tornado touched down on the shoulder of Interstate 65 before moving east across state Road 31. It was on ground for one minute, traveling 1 mile with maximum wind speeds of 90 mph.

"Started hearing trees fall, started hearing debris hitting the house and kind of reminded us of 2012," Hall said.

The Halls lived in Henryville in 2012 when a devastating EF-4 tornado destroyed parts of the community, and now the family has found themselves in the aftermath of another tornado.

"Once you reflect on how bad it could be, it definitely gives you a different perspective, for sure," Hall said.

The Hall family and dozens of others continued work to clean up the mess on Monday. Many spent the day clearing downed trees and cleaning debris.

However, many say they're grateful no one was seriously injured.

"We all came together in 2021 when this happened, and it's one of the benefits, I think, of living in the country and why I chose to live in this area and raise my family in this area. It's a great community to belong to," said Hall.

NWS also determined a broad swatch of 80+ mph straight line winds.

No injuries have been reported.
