LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Officials celebrated a decade of the Lewis and Clark Bridge, commonly called the East End Bridge, during a ceremony Thursday morning.

Nearly 10 years ago, the bridge connecting Louisville's east end and southern Indiana started welcoming traffic.

It officially opened in December 2016. Now, as many as 1 million vehicles use the bridge each month.

The bridge also serves as a connector into the River Ridge Commerce Center, which has nearly doubled its economic impact since the bridge opened.

"With the help of the East End Crossing, the momentum at River Ridge continues to benefit Clark County and communities across southern Indiana and the Metro Louisville region," said Marc Hildenbrand, with River Ridge Development Authority.

The bridge is tolled to pay for the project. Those tolls are expected to be in place until at least 2053.
