LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Radcliff man said it was only a matter of time for him to win the Kentucky Lottery.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, won $3 million playing a Kentucky Lottery scratch-off.

"I've always told friends and family, it's not if, it's when," he said to lottery officials.

He purchased the $30 Break Fort Knox ticket at Kroger in Elizabethtown on Dec. 1. He used $40 that he previously won on a $2,000,000 Diamond Dazzler Scratch-off.

He picked the Break Fort Knox game because it has larger prizes.

"I thought I’d give it a shot," he said. "Never did I dream this would happen."

The man scratched off the ticket at the store. On the fourth row, he matched the number 17.

"I started scratching off the amount and saw the skinny dollar sign and the three and I about passed out," he said. "I had to do a double take, triple take. I pulled up the app and scanned it. It said, 'Congratulations, you won $3,000,000, claim at KLC.' That’s when it got real."

He then called his friend and asked her to come to the Kroger in Elizabethtown.

"Get to E-town now! I’m fine, I’ll tell you when you get here, just get here," he said to her. "I scanned it right there for her and she said, 'Oh god, that is legit.'"

He took the ticket home, signed it and put it in a safe place. He brought the ticket to lottery headquarters in Louisville the next day.

He decided to take a lump sum cash payment of $2,244,000. He received $1,615,680 after taxes.

He plans to pay off debt, invest and travel.

Kroger will receive $22,440 for selling the winning ticket.
