LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A chunk of Kentucky meat shower history has returned home.

On March 3, 1876, Rebecca Crouch was outside with her grandson when meat started to rain down in Bath County. That's in eastern Kentucky.

They gathered up a horse cart full and people in the area ate it.

But a slice of the meat was saved and has been under the care of Transylvania University.

On Saturday, the Bath County History Museum got to return the sliver to its original meat locker.

"A lot of people left here impressed and enjoyed very interesting stories," Bath County Museum Curator Brent Frizzel said. "Actually, it came from other people who had relatives or descendants. They were descendants of people that visited or saw it back when it happened."

DNA testing of the meat has been inconclusive. Theories range from winds picking up fish and frogs to vultures regurgitating meals.
