LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — On Tuesday, Kentucky elected it's first woman to serve as chief justice on the state's Supreme Court.
Chief Justice of the Commonwealth Laurance VanMeter announced Thursday Deputy Chief Justice Debra Hembree Lambert will take over as chief justice.
Lambert will take office on Jan. 6, becoming the first woman to ever lead Kentucky's Judicial Branch.
Lambert has more than 17 years of experience on the bench and leads the Kentucky Judicial Commission on Mental Health. She has also served as a Family Court judge and Court of Appeals judge.
