LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Work for the commonwealth brought Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear to Churchill Downs on Wednesday morning.

Beshear said Kentucky Derby week is a great week time show pride in the Bluegrass State. Part of his job entails handing the solid gold trophy to the Derby winner Saturday on national television.

He said Derby week also brings more CEOs to Kentucky than any other week of the year.

"The easy sell is we are in the perfect place in the United States," Beshear said. "If you are going to put one of your first facilities, if you're a foreign-owned company or if you want to expand, our logistics are second to none. We can reach 60% of the U.S. population in a one-day drive. And you've got (UPS) Worldport right here in Louisville, and DHL's North American headquarters are in northern Kentucky."

As for his Derby picks, Beshear said he's intrigued by Just Steel and Sierra Leone.
