LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Councilwoman Shameka Parrish-Wright, D-3, announced she's running for mayor.

The Democrat will run against current Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg, her second bid to become mayor.

Parrish-Wright, a prominent voice for racial justice in Louisville, was first elected to Metro Council in November 2023.

"Leadership isn't about titles — it's about responsibility," she said in a news release Wednesday. "I'm ready to lead with courage, character, and community."

Parrish-Wright said her mayoral campaign will focus on community-driven solutions to public safety, housing affordability, infrastructure and economic opportunity. She also said she hopes to restore trust in government and ensure the leadership works for everyone.

Parrish-Wright will make a formal announcement Saturday at her 49th birthday brunch.

Other candidates who have filed include Jeffrey Yocum, Bob DeVore and Matthew Solomon Bailey. The filing deadline for candidates is Friday, Jan. 9.

"On my birthday, I'm choosing to serve Louisville in a bigger way," Parrish-Wright said in a news release. "Yes this is round two for Louisville Mayor and this time more is on the line. Responsibility comes first. Serving the people always. Louisville deserves experienced leadership that delivers real results."
