SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A busy cut-through in Shepherdsville that connects two major roads will be closed for several months starting Monday as crews work to rebuild its bridge.

The bridge on Bells Mill Road, which spans Floyds Fork, is a key route for more than 10,000 vehicles daily, providing a shortcut across Bullitt County. Residents say the closure will disrupt daily commutes and could slow emergency response times.

“This is going to be a major inconvenience,” said Dan Cline, who has lived in the Miller’s Crossing neighborhood for three decades. “If I have to go into Louisville and come back after 3 p.m., it's going to add easily an hour just coming home.”

Westbound drivers will be detoured onto Preston Highway to Shepherdsville, then left onto East Fourth Street. Eastbound drivers will follow the reverse route.

Emergency responders are preparing to adjust for the closure. Chief Kevin Moulton of the Zoneton Fire Department said his team will work with Shepherdsville and Mt. Washington departments to ensure coverage.

“Mount Washington has a firehouse down there that is not staffed, so between us we are going to look at sending one member during the day, 24 hours a day, to staff that firehouse,” Moulton said.

The $2.5 million project is aimed at strengthening the bridge’s superstructure to handle increasing traffic. Officials said, weather permitting, construction is expected to be completed by mid-May.

Cline said that while the closure will be inconvenient, residents understand the work is necessary.

“You’re just going to have to deal with it and know it is going to be over eventually,” he said.
