LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Dr. Greg Postel is relinquishing his day-to-day duties as executive vice president for health affairs at the University of Louisville to pursue an academic fellowship, U of L Neeli Bendapudi said in an email to the school's Health Sciences Center on Tuesday.
Postel led U of L as interim president for a little more than a year during a turbulent time for the university. But Postel was passed over for the permanent position as president when Bendapudi was chosen in April.
Postel's departure as the school's top health official has been forecast for months.
The university has advertised for a search firm to find a permanent health affairs vice president, and Postel's employment contract for the position runs through May 2019.
His upcoming fellowship runs through the end of the academic year, which coincides with the end of his contract as vice president for health affairs.
Postel also listed his home in Indian Hills for sale earlier this year, though the university has said that shouldn't be seen as an indication he is "leaving the community."
Despite the change in daily duties, Postel remains the executive vice president for health affairs, U of L spokesman John Karman said Wednesday. He likened the situation to a professor taking a sabbatical.Â
Note: This has been updated to clarify that Postel remains executive vice president for health affairs despite the changes announced Tuesday.
