LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The mentally ill and people seeking public housing could soon be moving into Norton Commons, and residents are taking sides. 

Dubbed "Lot 426," the apartment complex would be in the middle of all the commerce at Norton Commons, and some are embracing the idea with open arms.

"I don't see anything wrong with all of us being in the same place together enjoying everyone's company," said Zachary Sabin, a manager at "Citizen 7" at Norton Commons. 

Others have their reservations. 

"There is the development coming in. It is being done without our input, [and] we have concerns," said Norton Commons resident Jeff Angle. 

WDRB obtained a document that lists people who would be priority residents at "Lot 426". 

  • People with serious mental illness
  • Locals seeking a home from the "Public Housing Authority"
  • U.S. Military Veterans 
  • Employees of Norton Commons 

Local developer Steve Kersey is the architect behind "Lot 426." WDRB called him a half dozen times Wednesday, texted him and waited on hold for a long time. He did not respond to our request for an interview.

The next step is a petition with over 500 signatures we be delivered to Mayor Greg Fischer's office Thursday morning. Residents of Norton Commons say they want to open up a dialog with the mayor.
