LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Senator Mitch McConnell along with Ukraine's Ambassador to the U.S. called for aid for Ukraine at an event at the University of Louisville.

The Senate Minority leader spoke to a group of people in attendance at the McConnell Center's Distinguished Speaker Series on Monday.

Despite many Republicans arguing against further aid for Ukraine, McConnell doubled down on his support.

Ambassador Oksana Markarova echoed McConnell's comments, saying U.S. support is required.

"This is not just a test for Ukraine. It's a test for the United States and for the free world," McConnell said. "The path toward greater security for all of us is simple: help Ukraine win the war."

"Please stand a little bit longer with us so we can win and Ukraine can not only win this, but be an answer to so many global problems," Markarova said.

The U.S. has already sent more than $100 billion to Ukraine.
