LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Kentucky U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell's office said Monday the senator will "not be voting this week" as he continues his recovery after he was hospitalized.
According to a statement from his spokesperson, McConnell is "still working closely with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters."
The senator was admitted to the hospital Sunday, June 14. His spokesperson said at the time he was "receiving excellent care."
It's unknown why he was hospitalized. The day after his hospitalization, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul said McConnell was "doing better." A spokesperson said then that he was "fully engaged" with his staff.
Earlier this year, McConnell was hospitalized for eight days after experiencing "flu-like symptoms."
McConnell, the longest-serving Senate party leader in U.S. history, announced last February he wouldn't seek reelection this year and instead retire when his current term ends in January 2027.
The senator has dealt with a series of medical episodes in recent years, including injuries sustained from falls and times when his face briefly froze while he was speaking.
