LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A male inmate was put in a holding cell with a female inmate at the Bullitt County jail last month.

In a statement, jailer Bryan Whittaker said the incident happened March 26 at the Bullitt County Detention Center. A sergeant on duty told a deputy to put a male inmate in a holding cell with the female inmate. Whittaker said the mistake was discovered within minutes.

Because of this and other issues, the sergeant was fired.

"Mishaps like this cannot be permitted to happen, and the person responsible has been handled appropriately," Whittaker said in the statement.
