LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — An Indiana man has been arrested for attempting to kidnap a child in Seymour.
On May 31, the Seymour Police Department responded to the 1200 block of East Sycamore Road on a report that a man was attempting to grab a child and take her from the area, said Seymour Police Lt. C.J. Foster.
Once on scene, officers made contact with the child's mother who said a male came around the corner and tried to get her daughter to come to him. The mother told her no, and that is when the man grabbed the girl. The mother was able to grab her daughter away from the man, Foster said.
The man grabbed the child's sunglasses and ran away. Police were able to gather a description of him.
On Tuesday, police located the man, 28-year-old Raul F. Ortega, of Seymour, and conducted an interview.
Ortega is charged with attempted kidnapping, robbery, theft and battery of a victim under the age of 14.
He is being held in the Jackson County, Indiana jail.
