LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Seymour police officers saved the life of a choking baby thanks to a life-saving device.
Police responded to the 100 block of East 9th Street in Seymour when a one-month old child was choking and not breathing. Police said the child was gurgling and their facial color was changing.
According to police, officers used the LifeVac USA system, which is an upper airway clearing device that assists in clearing a child's airway. Once the child's upper airway was cleared, the child became responsive.
The child was taken to Schneck Medical Center by police. The child is now doing well.
Seymour police received the LifeVac system in July this year. Officers started training on the device and are issued the LifeVac system after they complete the training.
According to Seymour police, the LifeVac device has been vetted, purchased and implemented in more than 460 fire departments and EMS providers, along with more than 540 police departments.
The child rescued by the Seymour Police Department is the 2,627th reported life saved, according to LifeVac statistics.
