LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Shepherdsville woman who won $65,000 on the Kentucky Lottery app said she's going to use the money to finally buy her late grandmother's home.
Misti Pagan was busy preparing for her best friend's wedding when she decided to take a break and play a few lottery games on her phone.
That's when the number popped up on her screen: $65,216.59.
"My heart dropped. I felt like I was going to pass out," she said. "I yelled to my fiancé 'Babe, I think I just won sixty-five thousand dollars!' He paused his movie and said 'I’ll believe it when I see the check.'"
After Pagan received the confirmation email, she knew exactly what she wanted to do with the money. Two years ago, Pagan's grandmother died, and her family has hoped to purchase her grandmother's home, an original 1940 Sears, Roebuck & Co. house in Sandusky, Ohio.
"That's exactly what we're doing with this," she said. "It means everything to be able to buy her house."
After taxes, Pagan took home over $47,000.
The Kentucky Lottery has paid out nearly $1.8 billion in prizes this year. Its proceeds fund scholarships and grants for over $1.1. million college students across the state.
