LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - For some shoppers, the Christmas rush didn't stop on Christmas Day.
“We thought we wanted something extra for somebody,” Kayla Zimmerlee said.
“Two gift cards and some AAA batteries for my camera. Then I'm gonna go eat all day,” Shelly Green said.
“It's the only store open in this area right now, and they don't have everything I need but I'll take what they have,” Samantha Jenkins said.
The Walgreens at the corner of Hikes Lane and Bardstown Road was one of the few stores that Louisville shoppers could turn to finish their Christmas lists on Christmas Day.
“So, here I am,” Green said.
“Maybe perfume? Who knows. Something in here. Houseshoes. They have everything,” Zimmerlee said.
Jenkins says she has always been a last minute shopper.
“But not the day of. This is ridiculous. I normally do it the day before,” Jenkins said.
She was one of many people who packed the open store on Thursday.
Some were printing photos, while others were looking for gifts or batteries.
Food and drinks were also flying off the shelves.
“I did Christmas and then we ran out of milk,” Debbie Smith said.
“And we came to get eggnog,” Zimmerlee said.
We were able to find a select few not actually looking for gifts.
“We needed medicine,” Tom and Leslie McAlpin said.
“There are always emergencies. Patients always need their medications. A lot of people are also getting a lot of over the counter products too with flu season,” said Tina Patel, who works in the Walgreens pharmacy.
Even some people who had already celebrated the holiday early in the morning, were back shopping once again by the afternoon.
“So now we're just going to see what else we can get,” Stephanie Ralston said.
On a holiday when it's hard to find anything open, there's no time to be picky when you're in a rush to complete your list!
“Anything that's cheap! A little bit of everything,” Ralston said.
At this Walgreens location, the store manager expected at least 1,000 customers on Christmas Day, at minimum.
