LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One of baseball's greats was celebrated Sunday in downtown Louisville.
The Slugger Museum and Factory observed "Roberto Clemente Day" to honor the late Puerto Rican baseball legend, and the celebration will continue all week. Guests can hold Clemente's bat, and take a swing with replica bats.
There's also exhibits highlighting the impact of Hispanic players in baseball, special performances and other unique experiences.
Clemente was one of the first Hispanic superstars of baseball.
PJ Shelley with the Slugger Museum said Clemente was a "great Puerto Rican outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates" who was in the 3,000 hit club, and won an MVP award.
"He was also known for his humanitarian efforts," Shelley said.
Also, through Oct. 15, Slugger Museum is offering free admission to guests can who donate new or gently used baseball equipment. All donations will be given to Play Ball Puerto Rico to support young athletes.
